Levelers day 2009 started with the threat of heavy showers that never really materialised, in fact although blustery the sunshine in the afternoon was glorious.

The turn out from Faringdon was low this year, but despite the wind we managed to carry the marching banner in the procession, which was perhaps a third up on previous years numbers but still a gentle and well received march.
After the dedication to the Levelers in Burford church yard the afternoon started with an entertaining anthology of peace and human rights by our old friend Tony Benn, partnered by Roy Bailey interspersing the monologue with appropriate and heart rending songs. Tony's theme from the 14th century peasant revolt to today echoed what he said at Faringdon a few weeks ago and I must admit most of the jokes were the same, but it didn't matter the man was on form and in his element.
Following him was a lone female folk singer "Tracy Curtis" whose clean and punchy folk rhythms and activist songs were a joy to listen to!
I'm afraid that's where we had to leave as both my wife and daughter had run out of steam, so all I can really say is; WHERE WERE YOU, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MISSED, A GLORIOUS DAY AND THE WEATHER TO MATCH
Perhaps you will know better next year!
